Following the tsunami disaster on 26th December 2004, Jambudvipa responded to situation, but could not undertake relief work due to distance. However Jambudvipa has friends in terms of its earlier trained students in Nagarjuna Training Institute, Sakya Foundation and AMMAN. The Sakya Sangha initiated by Sakya Umanathan and his friends undertook relief work. In order to help in the long term rehabilitation project, Jambudvipa partnered with Sakya Sangha. Now two hostels for Dalit Students in Tsunami affected coastal district of Tamil Nadu have been started. Sakya Sangha, is registered under The Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.
i) Boys Hostel (with 50 students)
ii) Girls Hostel (with 50 Students)
The hostels are located in Napaalayam, Thiruvallur Dist, Tamil Nadu which is 25 Kms off from Central Railway Station. It is located on the National Highway (NH-5) connecting Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and government school is easily accessible.
Jambudvipa is also setting up three village community centres in various parts of Tamil Nadu and AMMAN, an organization working for social change in both rural and urban Tamil Nadu, is the local partner.
