The Peaceful Revolution >Sangharakshita
One foreign Buddhist who did contribute significantly to the situation was Sangharakshita, an English Buddhist, who lived in India from 1944 until 1964. After Dr. Ambedkar ’s death he spent a few months every year travelling amongst the new Buddhist converts helping them to understand basic Buddhist principles and practices, in this way developing a very close connection with them. In 1967 he left India to help develop the nascent Buddhist movement in UK, founding the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO). Not forgetting his commitment to the Buddhist followers of Dr. Ambedkar, in India in 1978 he sent his British disciple Lokamitra to resume the work amongst them. |
