Peaceful Revolution

Shakyamuni Buddha was born, taught and died in India. After his Parinirvana, Buddhism spread all over India and eventually all over Asia, although it effectively died out in India about 700 years ago. Buddhism very dramatically returned to India on 14 October, 1956, when Dr. Ambedkar, along with 500,000 so-called “untouchable” followers went for Refuge to the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha, in order to embrace a spiritual tradition free of prejudice and discrimination. Many more have followed since then so that today the number of Buddhists in India is estimated at well over 20 million.
